After all those years of planning and preparations, the
greatest show on Earth is finally here! In a couple of days, the eyes of all
the planet will be focus on the wonderful city of Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic
Games, and the triathlon family is more proud than ever to be part of the show.
Please, mark those two days on your calendar: August 18th
and 20th. The fantastic beach of Capacabana will be the
unforgettable setting for the triathlon Olympic races, with the best
triathletes of the world fighting for the Olympic glory. And the ITU family
will be there to cheer for them support them and make sure that the rest of the
world can enjoy the show on television and social media, no matter where they
are.
I landed in Rio just ahead of the IOC General Assembly,
which will decide among other things some new members of the IOC, to bring the
total membership to 99 active members. We will also discuss the new sports to
be added to the Olympic Programme for the Tokyo 2020 Games, so it’s going to be
a couple of intense work days before enjoying the Games.
Opening Ceremony is on Friday August 5, tune in to your
screens. You really don’t want to miss the greatest show on Earth… and
triathlon being part of it!
