| Visiting the Cuenca High Performance Center |
One of the greatest rewards of my job as president of the ITU is to see firsthand how countries with less tradition in our sport grow from a sporting point of view, both in organizing events and working to have new sports talents and elite athletes.
And that is one of the main reasons I am particularly enjoying these days in Ecuador. First, in the charming city of Salinas, which will host an ITU World Cup race next September, the only World Cup to be held this season in South America. The circuit is ready to welcome our athletes, and the setting could not be more beautiful.
I also had the opportunity to meet with the Sports Minister, Xavier Enderica Salgado and the President of the Ecuadorian Triathlon Federation, Julio Ramírez, and visit with them the high performance training center of Cuenca, meeting the athletes training there. I am sure that in the future we will see a number of elite athletes coming from here, they are training hard to get it. Next stop: Valparaiso (Chile), to enjoy the South American Championship.

El despegue del Triatlón en Ecuador
Una de las mayores recompensas de mi trabajo como presidenta de la ITU es poder ver de primera mano cómo países con menor tradición en nuestro deporte van creciendo desde el punto de vista deportivo, tanto en la organización de eventos como en trabajar para tener nuevos talentos deportivos y atletas de élite.

Y eso es precisamente lo que estoy pudiendo comprobar estos días en Ecuador. Primero, en la maravillosa ciudad de Salinas, que acogerá el próximo mes de septiembre una prueba de la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón, la única que se hará esta temporada en Sudamérica. El circuito está listo para acoger a nuestros deportistas de élite, y el entorno no puede ser más bonito.
Además he podido de reunirme con el ministro de Deportes, Xavier Enderica Salgado, y el presidente de la Federación Ecuatoriana de Triatlón, Julio Ramírez, y visitar con ellos el centro de alto rendimiento de Cuenca, donde hemos visto a la futura élite del triatlón local entrenando. Estoy segura de que en el futuro saldrán grandes triatletas de estas instalaciones. Próxima parada: Valparaíso (Chile), para disfrutar del Campeonato Suramericano de Triatlón.
