After the earthquake that hit Nepal in April 2015, the great family of Triathlon decided to mobilize and try to raise funds to help the people of this country and the National Federation. We launched a fundraising campaign, with which we raised $ 10.500, and involved athletes, national federations and many dedicated triathletes.
A few months ago, I decided to bring in the New Year in Nepal, a country that has always welcomed me so warmly, to have the opportunity to see firsthand the situation and to be able to follow the agreements for donating the money we raised.
After spending the first few days of the year at a retreat in a Nepalese mediation center, gaining strength for the exciting year ahead, I visited areas affected by the earthquake last year. It was a great honor to be present at the signature of a MoU between the Nepal Triathlon Association and two schools in the region of Bhaktapur – the Ganesh Primary School and the Binayak Saraswoti Secondary School. These two schools will receive the money raised in rebuilding the schools, which will be merged in a single center called Shree Ganesh - Binayak Saraswoti Lower Secondary school.
In addition, the new school management will provide five Ropanies (aprox. 2500 m2) to build the Triathlon Talent School and a student hostel within the perimeter. The Nepal Triathlon Association will select talented young athletes from all over the country and accommodate them in the newly built hostel, and they will be educated in the Shree Ganesh – Binayak Saraswoti Lower Secondary School.
You can not imagine the proud moment it is to know that the money they we have raised with so much effort will materialize in these projects, and being able to see the faces of children and teachers who will use these facilities, and to know that we are doing our part in making their lives a little better.
The secretary general of the Nepalese Federation, Nilendra Shrestha, who accompanied me on the trip and signed the agreement with schools, wanted to send all their gratitude and affection to each and every one of the people and institutions that contributed to this project. I had the opportunity also to meet with the president of the Nepali Olympic Committee, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, and was received in audience by the President of Nepal, Hon'ble Bidhya Devi Bhandari, with whom I had the opportunity to talk about the evolution of our sport in the country.
Undoubtedly a trip full of emotions and the best possible start of the year!

Escuela del Talento de Triatlón en Nepal
Tras el terremoto que asoló Nepal en abril de 2015, la gran familia del Triatlón decidió movilizarse y tratar de recaudar fondos para ayudar, en la medida de lo posible, a la entrañable gente de este país y a la Federación Nacional. Pusimos en marcha una campaña de recaudación de fondos, con la que logramos recaudar 10,500 dólares, y en la que participaron activamente atletas, Federaciones Nacionales y muchos miembros de la gran familia de la ITU.
Hace ya unos meses que decidí recibir el Año Nuevo en Nepal, un país que siempre me ha acogido de forma espectacular, para además poder ver de primera mano los proyectos a los que se dedicará el dinero que hemos recaudado.
Tras pasar los primeros días del año en un retiro en un centro de meditación nepalí, cogiendo fuerzas para el apasionante año que tenemos por delante, y después de visitar la zona afectada por el terremoto el año pasado, ha sido para mí un gran orgullo poder asistir a la firma de un acuerdo entre la Federación Nepalí y dos escuelas de la región de Bhaktapur -Ganesh Primary School y Binayak Saraswoti Secondary School, que destinarán el dinero recaudado para rehacer la escuela uniéndose en un solo centro, Shree Ganesh – Binayak Saraswoti Lower Secondary School.
Además, con la ayuda de la Federación nepalí, en el mismo terreno, cedido por las escuelas, se pondrá en marcha la Escuela de Talento de Triatlón, donde los jóvenes triatletas del país podrán formarse y alojarse.
No os podéis imaginar el orgullo que supone ver que el dinero que hemos recaudado con tanto esfuerzo va a materializarse en estos proyectos, ver las caras de los niños y los maestros que utilizarán estas instalaciones, y saber que estamos poniendo nuestro granito de arena en hacer su vida un poco mejor.
El secretario general de la Federación nepalí, Nilendra Shrestha, que me acompañó en el viaje y en la firma del acuerdo con las escuelas, quiso enviar desde aquí todo su agradecimiento y cariño a todas y cada una de las personas e instituciones que han colaborado en este proyecto. Tuve la ocasión también de reunirme con el presidente del Comité Olímpico Nepalí, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, y fui recibida en audiencia por la Presidenta de Nepal, Hon'ble Bidhya Devi Bhandari, con los que tuve la oportunidad de charlar sobre la evolución de nuestro deporte en el país.
Sin duda, un viaje cargado de emociones y el mejor de los posibles comienzos de año!
