2016, what a great year!

This 2016 that is about to end was another wonderful year, and we all have to be very proud of our organization. It was a year in which we all enjoyed the marvelous Olympic Games in Rio where triathlon had one of its most successful races. It was a year that saw the debut of paratriathlon at the Paralympic Games. It was a year in which our triathletes broke records, made history and showed the world how strong they are.

Our National Federation family grew. We continued strongly in the fight against doping, working hard to keep triathlon clean. We’ve also had a very healthy year financially, as we were able to save money for the future of triathlon. We have become a model organization in good government and have invested heavily in the development in our sport.

And none of this would have been possible without the great help of all the National Federations, our executive Board and all the people who participate in the different Committees and Commissions, and of course, without the athletes. Thank you all for this great success, which belongs to every single one of us.

It was a year also for the Elections, not only for the Presidency but also for the Executive Board and all the Committees and Commissions. I am extremely proud of the team that is making our sport so great, and the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, shared my thoughts when he addressed our Congress last week in Madrid.

I don’t want to miss the opportunity to thank you all, from the heart, for the great responsibility that you had given me. I promise to keep on working for our sport with the same commitment to accomplish greater things in the upcoming years.

 
It was a year, in short, that was very well rounded. Now it is time to move forward to look at how we can make triathlon even better in the future.

2017 will come full of positive energy to keep on working on the development and the expansion of triathlon everywhere. We have a great calendar ahead, full of exciting races for all, and I’m really looking forward to see you all in Rotterdam for the ITU Grand Final, or in many races, seminars or meeting on the mean time. All together, we’ll make our sport even greater.

2016, un año fantástico

Este año 2016 que está a punto de terminar ha sido un año fantástico, del que toda nuestra organización y los que formamos parte de ella tenemos que sentirnos muy orgullosos. Hemos podido disfrutar de unos maravillosos Juegos Olímpicos en Río en los que el triatlón fue uno de los deportes más espectaculares; hemos visto el debut en los Juegos Paralímpicos del paratriatlón. Ha sido un año en el que nuestros deportistas han batido récords, hecho historia y demostrado al mundo entero que son realmente fuertes.

Nuestra familia de Federaciones Nacionales ha crecido sustancialmente. Hemos seguido luchando con firmeza contra el dopaje, trabajando sin descanso para mantener nuestro deporte y a nuestros deportistas limpios. Hemos tenido un año muy bueno en términos financieros, y hemos incluso conseguido dotar de dinero el fondo de reserva, para poder invertir en proyectos de desarrollo. Samos una organización modélica, a la que incluso el COI pone de ejemplo por su buena gestión y apuesta por la transparencia. Y tenemos que sentirnos muy orgullosos de todo ello. 

Porque nada de esto habría sido posible sin la gran ayuda de todas las Federaciones Nacionales, nuestro Comité Ejecutivo y todos los miembros de nuestras distintas Comisiones y Comités de trabajo, y por supuesto, a nuestros atletas. Muchísimas gracias por vuestros éxitos, que son los de todos. 

Cerramos el año con un mes de diciembre muy constructivo, en el que hemos celebrado no sólo nuestro Congreso, sino también las elecciones a la Presidencia de la ITU, las Vicepresidencias, el Comité Ejecutivo y las Comisiones y Comités. Estoy increíblemente orgullosa de este equipo de trabajo que forma la ITU y que hace que tengamos una institución tan especial que ha sido alabada públicamente por el Presidente del COI, Thomas Bach, que vino a Madrid a inaugurar nuestro Congreso.  

No quiero dejar la ocasión de daros a todos las gracias, desde lo más profundo del corazón, por haberme depositado vuestra confianza para dirigir la ITU cuatro años más. Os prometo seguir trabajando duro para que nuestro deporte siga creciendo.  

2016 ha sido un año, en definitiva, redondo. Ahora es hora de mirar hacia adelante para hacer del triatlón, si cabe, un deporte más grande. 

2017 nos traerá muchísimas pruebas, tanto en lugares que visitamos por primera vez como en sitios que ya son clásicos. Tenemos un excitante calendario de competiciones que terminará con la Gran Final de Rotterdam, en la que espero veros a todos, o en cualquier carrera, seminario o evento durante estos meses. Todos juntos seguiremos trabajando por el triatlón. 

Os deseo que tengáis un fin de año espléndido y un 2017 llevo de prosperidad, y que paséis unas felices vacaciones.
