Spanish King, Felipe VI, President of Honour of the Aviles 2016 Duathlon World Championship

For ITU, for the Organising Committee of ITU 2016 Duathlon World Championships in Aviles and for myself is a great pleasure, as well as an honour, to announce that His Majesty the King Felipe VI of Spain has accepted to be Chairman of the Committee of Honour of the event, to be held this summer in Aviles (Spain).

His Majesty accepted the request made by the mayor of Avilés and president of the Organizing Committee of the event, Ms Maria Virtudes Monteserín. For the triathlon family is really a great honour to welcome His Majesty to our event, and even though the Spanish Royal House hasn’t confirmed yet, we will be extremely pleased to welcome the King, the Queen and the Princess of Asturias –the older daughter of the couple- to our event.

The ITU 2016 Duathlon World Championship will take place in Aviles between 3 and 5 of June, where more than 1400 athletes from 40 countries will compete for the world title. Really great news for our sport to have the King’s support!
